Smallfoot and Yetis arrive this September

Although the main news today is that CBS is preparing new Star Trek series which will bring back Patrick Stewart as Jean Luc Picard, the spy will entertain you this Sunday with some snowy fun to freshen up your scorching summer! New animated adventure SMALLFOOT was originally slated for release in February but was then pushed later on into Autumn 2018, opening in cinemas in North America this September and Europe next October!

A number of adaptations I forgot to inform you about earlier this week! First of all, Isabel Allende's famous classic THE HOUSE OF THE SPIRITS, which was already made into a movie with Meryl Streep, Jeremy Irons, Vanessa Redgrave, Antonio Banderas and Glenn Close some twenty years ago, will be turned into a TV series by Hulu! The book which was sold in more than 70 million copies to date has been translated in almost 40 different languages following the triumphs and tragedies of three generations of the rich rancher Trueba family in Chile over the twentieth century.

 MODERN MOVIE ADAPTATION

Black Beauty will get a modern reimagining

Another period set literary classic that is getting a new more modern movie adaptation is Anna Sewell's popular novel BLACK BEAUTY! Ashley Avis is set to direct the movie which will put the events from the 1877 book into a modern setting following Jo Green, a teenager who recently lost her parents, and who is sent to live with her uncle at a horse and animal sanctuary on Long Island. She eventually bonds with the wild Black Beauty, who was similarly taken away from her family when her mustang herd was captured in the West.

GEORGE R.R. MARTIN'S BOOK TO BECOME ANIMATED ADVENTURE

Ice Dragon will be turned into an animated feature

But if you're more into fantasy, despair not, as another of George R. R. Martin's books will be adapted for the big screen. His 1980's children's books THE ICE DRAGON will be turned into a feature animated adventure! Martin will also produce the story set in a world of medieval fantasy where warring kingdoms harness the power of fire breathing dragons. It�s the story of a young girl named Adara, who secretly befriends a rare Ice Dragon. When the invading army of dragons invade her city, only the Ice Dragon can help her save their world from utter destruction.

PRINCE CHARLES IN 'THE CROWN' SEASON 3 AT NETFLIX

Josh O'Connor will play the future king

In a piece of news that might excite all of you devoted fans of God's Own Country, last year's best movie, its star Josh O'Connor is apparently going to play young Prince Charles in the third season of Netflix' popular series THE CROWN! The Durrells star will play the prince in his early 20s in the season that will see most of the cast replaced with older actors since it will be covering the mid 1960s all the way to mid 70s! Olivia Colman will play older Queen Elizabeth II, Tobias Menzies will be her husband Prince Philip, while Helena Bonham Carter, who was in the run for the lead role herself, will play her sister Princess Margaret. Jason Watkins is also joining the cast as British Labour Prime Minister Harold Wilson.

TO LEAD 'PASSION SIMPLE'

In other casting news from Cannes, Screen Daily reports that our favourite Russian star Danila Kozlovsky and Vicky Krieps will star in the adaptation of the international best seller PASSION SIMPLE by Annie Ernaux which has been translated into 20 languages. Krieps from Daniel Day Lewis' Phantom Thread, will play a 42 year old lecturer who has no illusions about the long term future of her relationship with her younger, married lover. The diplomat, a flashy figure with a penchant for big cars and Saint Laurent suits, does not make any promises either. Nonetheless, she becomes obsessed logging her every move and sensation as she awaits his return. Until one day, he vanishes, posted back home, without letting her know.

Koati will be presented for sales at Cannes!

Animation all the way today, starting with the news from Sofia Vergara who will produce and voice animated movie KOATI directed by Rodrigo Perez Castro who worked on Ferdinand and Ice Age movies. The movie will revolve around three unlikely heroes: a free spirited coati (a raccoon-like animal found mainly in Central and South America), a fearless monarch butterfly, and a hyperactive glass frog as they embark on an adventure to stop a wicked coral snake (Vergara) from destroying their homeland and friends.The coming of age story, filled with kind-hearted spirit and positivity, will present us with Latin American jungles, the Amazonian rainforest, and all the fun and cute exotic creatures that call them �home�. The movie will try to find distributors at this year's Cannes Film Festival open for foreign sales.
