ON THE BEACH by Michael Williams

 ON  THE  BEACH

by Michael Williams

At dawn, bare footed, viewing as far as eyes can reach,
the water's edge advances and recedes along the beach.

Before me I see a carpet of half-buried shells of sea-creatures,
tide washed and rippled in sodden sand along the beach.

I move, exploring, sodden sand oozing between my toes,
beyond me the wavelets breaking on the sand along the beach.

Behind me, my wandering trail is blurred and indistinct,
as the water's edge advances and recedes along the beach.

At mid-day, on the soft dry sand behind the water's edge,
undressed worshippers lie in the sun that beats down along the beach.

At night, the moon's reflection at the water's edge
resembles sea serpents playing in the wavelets along the beach.

BEAUTY AND THE BEACH by Faith Elizabeth Brigham

BEAUTY AND THE BEACH

by Faith Elizabeth Brigham

There is something about the ocean
that brings out the earth-mother in me
it is a place I love to go to write or
to ponder life's mysteries
being out in the ocean with
the waves spraying over me
feels something of a baptism
a cleansing of my soul's debris

the beach has a magnificent beauty
that never ceases to amaze me
and makes me feel one with the earth
in rhythmn and harmony
I realize as I look out to sea
how very small I really must be
in the overall scheme of things

I love the sea for it brings
out the spirituality in me
the feeling of being totally free
like seagulls overhead and
the sand underneath my feet
or the engulfing sun warming me
to get down to the nitty-gritty
the sea is a poet's paradise to me

LIKE THE WAVES FROM THE SHORE - by Marge Tindal

LIKE THE WAVES FROM THE SHORE

by Marge Tindal

I must now ebb
The time has come
to sail my oceans

Rolling away from you
like the waves from the shore
rippling out to the vastness of the sea
that beckons my ship of folly

I'll not ask you
to stand the night vigil
on the shoreline
of memory

You are here
on the beaches of my memory
even though I drift the tides

If you should look
into a starlit night
and see a reflection of me
know only that
I will one day
come crashing again
to the shore
swept homeward
by the pull
of the tide
and
you

THE SEA by Shirley Fudge

THE  SEA

by  Shirley Fudge

Gentle lulling of the sea,
Once again you beckon me.
Caressing waves upon the shore
Transporting me to years of yore.
As a child, your charm I sought,
Protecting me from battles fought.
Upon your craggy cliff I sat
To gaze in awe and wonder at
The magic of your shimmering tide
That restored ease and peace inside.

THE RED AND WHITE STRIPED LIGHTHOUSE - by Ebvor

THE RED AND WHITE STRIPED
LIGHTHOUSE

by Ebvor

The red and white striped lighthouse,
Standing by the sea,
As quiet as a mouse,
Telling boats where it be.

Against the rocks a wave crashes.
The lighthouse just stares on.
Suddenly some lightning flashes,
But he's gonna stare till dawn.

The red and white striped lighthouse,
Standing by the sea,
As quiet as a mouse,
Telling boats where it be.

He shines his light through the thick fog,
As rain darkens the sands.
He shines his light through all the smog.
On the rocks he proudly stands.

The red and white striped lighthouse,
Standing by the sea,
As quiet as a mouse,
Telling boats where it be.

The rising sun makes the ocean glisten bright.
A couple comes out to see the astonishing sight.
There is no need to shine, for it's no longer night,
And the lighthouse slowly fades out its light.

MAGICAL CREATURES (Dolphins) - by Kelly Gilby

MAGICAL  CREATURES

by   Kelly Gilby
The ocean is vast, so wonderous and wide,
it holds many magical creatures inside.
The most magical is the DOLPHIN it seems,
their joyous spirit glows and gleams.
Swimming for joy, both far and near,
they'll sing their song for all to hear.
Come join the pod and have some fun,
part of the group, never more then one !

THE OCEAN - by B Gosling

THE OCEAN

by B Gosling

The waves trickle along my toes.
The soft ocean sprays across my nose.
The sand was compliant under my feet,
Exactly where the ocean and it decide to meet.

The water rose and enveloped around my shin.
The salt water numbing against the skin.
A shell drifted, caught in the tide,
A tiny crab adrift inside.

The water drifted up to my hips,
A million kisses from the ocean's lips.
A gentle caress from the deep blue,
Though it would've been better if it was from you...

The water enveloped around my waist.
A thousand tiny fingers around me laced.
The horizon calls, it beckons me
Out towards it, across the sea.

SONG FOR ALL SEAS, ALL SHIPS - by Walt Whitman

SONG FOR ALL SEAS, ALL SHIPS

 by Walt Whitman
(from Leaves of Grass  first published in 1882 edition)

            1

To-day a rude brief recitative,
Of ships sailing the Seas, each with its special flag or ship-signal;
Of unnamed heroes in the shipsOf waves spreading and spreading, far as the eye can reach;
Of dashing spray, and the winds piping and blowing;
And out of these a chant, for the sailors of all nations,
Fitful, like a surge.

Of Sea-Captains young or old, and the Matesand of all intrepid Sailors;
Of the few, very choice, taciturn, whom fate can never surprise, nor death dismay,
Pickd sparingly, without noise, by thee, old Oceanchosen by thee,
Thou Sea, that pickest and cullest the race, in Time, and unitest Nations!
Suckled by thee, old husky Nurseembodying thee!
Indomitable, untamed as thee.

(Ever the heroes, on water or on land, by ones or twos appearing,
Ever the stock preservd, and never lost, though rareenough for seed preservd.)

            2

Flaunt out O Sea, your separate flags of nations!
Flaunt out, visible as ever, the various ship-signals!
But do you reserve especially for yourself, and for the soul of man, one flag above all the rest,
A spiritual woven Signal, for all nations, emblem of man elate above death,
Token of all brave captains, and all intrepid sailors and mates,
And all that went down doing their duty;
Reminiscent of themtwined from all intrepid captains, young or old;
A pennant universal, subtly waving, all time, oer all brave sailors,
All seas, all ships.
